How to search for camps using CampSearch.
The easiest way to search our database is using our keyword search
function. Located at the top of every page, you can type in any number of
keywords that correspond to the program or camp you are looking for.
Example: sports camps Florida will produce a comprehensive list of
camping programs in Florida, that are currently offering sports programs.
If you are searching for a camp with specific attributes, you can also
define them in the keyword search.
Example: ADD LDHD California.
Our advanced search utility enables you to identify various aspects of
a specific camp. Simply click on the advanced search link, and you will
guided through a series questions, further defining the camp you are
looking for.
Questions for the camp director:
We encourage you to speak with the camp director before attending camp,
or prior to sending a camper. Here are a few questions that will help you
assess your requirements, and the requirements for your camper.
What is your background in camping? What is your camp's philosophy?
What is your ratio of campers to staff? What are the ages of your camp
staff ?(average) What percentage of your campers return each year? What
provisions are made for campers with special needs? How will my child get
to and from the camp? Do you offer special meals? Vegetarian, Peanut
Allergy etc?
Camp Search Camp Classification
Day Camps operate for periods of 1 day to eight weeks providing
opportunities for children to sleep at home while enjoying a camp
experience during the day. Transportation and supervision to the campsite
may or not be included in the camp fee. Day camps cater to mainstream
campers, offer programs to those with special needs, or integrated
programs for both types of campers. Always speak to the camp director
before attending camp.
Residential Camps, overnight, or sleep away camps, operate over a
variety of time periods ranging from a few days up to several weeks.
Accommodation and food service arrangements vary: dormitories, serviced
cabins, rustic shelters, tents, customized menus, cafeteria-style service,
catered food service, etc. Activities, vary widely with the camp's
philosophy, budget, and physical environment. Always speak to the camp
director before attending camp.
Specialty Camps Operate as either a day camp or residential camp, and
sometimes both. A specialty camp can be very specific in it's programming
placing special emphasis on one particular activity (i.e. Tennis Camp).
Specialty camps usually have facilities and staffing, (and experience) to
handle campers with physical, mental, developmental or emotional needs.

Focused Programs Operating as either day or residential. Focused
programs offer very rigid and specific activities. For example, an
equestrian camp may offer a very focused program revolving around
equestrian riding. Similarly a golf camp, day or residential will clearly
offer a structured golf program, for adults and/or children campers.

Outdoor Education. Outdoor education programs are often offered at or
through Outdoor Recreation facilities. These programs usually revolve
around learning and knowledge of the Outdoors. Education centres often
cater to large groups including schools, day care, and day camps. Outdoor
Education centres often make excellent retreats for business. Always speak

Tours and Adventures Adventures and tours can be either "day" or
"residential" in nature. Transportation is usually a cost incorporated
into the fee. They operate from periods of 1 day, up to several weeks.

Family Camps often operate either year-round or seasonal facilities
ideal for family vacationing. Accommodations and food service vary.
Programming and activities are suitable for people of all ages, from
junior to senior. Always speak to the camp director before attending camp.
Camp Types by Organization
Private Camps Individuals, groups of individuals or private
organizations operate the camp. In some cases, the camp is operated as the
full time or, in some cases, the principal source of income for the owner.
Consequently, the philosophy, staffing, program decisions and site
development of the camp are often closely associated with the
owner/operator's own leadership style. Always speak to the camp director

Municipality-Sponsored Many municipalities operate a camp programs
within or parallel to their recreation program. Typically, these programs
are of a day camp nature on sites available throughout the community
(schools, conservation areas, recreation complexes). Always speak to the

Agency-Sponsored A wide variety of social service and publicly funded
organizations maintain a camping program as an extension of the service
which they offer their community. Often, campers and parents who utilize
the other services of the agency will turn to it again for their camp

Religiously Affiliated Camps operate programs
as an extension of their community work. In some cases, religious studies
are incorporated into portion of the daily program. Often it may simply
represent staff commitment and the philosophy of the program delivered.
